Dr. King, an expert witness for the defense, states that Peter was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of chronic victimization. "But a big part of it, too," he adds, "is the society that created both Peter and those bullies" (409). Do you think that society is partly to blame for Peter's actions as well as those of the bullies? Do you agree with this? Why or why not?
i think that its somwhat the societys fault because they dont understand whats going on with peter even though they think they get it. and its mostley the bullies because they can just be @$$holes and not have anycare about anyone else besides themslef

I think that society plays a big part in bullying. There is always the line where you step over and become a part of society or step away and never become one with it. The bullies wouldn't ever have been created if the world we live in wasn't always setting standards. The parents want good grades, while the teachers want you to be quiet and listen, then there is your friends urging you to be one with them by doing drugs and having sex or just plainly picking on the weaker kid. If the world would just stop picking on the individual and making standards none of this could or would ever happen. SOciety should be blamed for everything that has happened to Peter.

I think society plays a major part in Peter's actions. Without what society, by society I mean Sterling High, Peter would most likely be a great kid. He was always being picked on, tease, and abused. Taking society out of the problem would totally change the whole story around and leave Peter guilty of his actions. I am not saying that Peter wasn't the person who shot up the school I am just saying that society was like the fuel to the fire. The more he was teased the closer Peter was to his braking point. Another point is that before Peter was in kindergarden he an Joise we best friends. They did everything together. When Peter got into school the "real world" kicked in and Peter's life turned to the dark side. He was then picked on and abused. That when Peter sarted to become the person he is today.

its not societys fault on what happent to peter it is a card that is pulled so much out of the bs hat people dont understand what kind of pain peter is in but they think that if they try to understand its one less thing to think about

I'm pretty sure I said this at least once during the year. Every thing boils down to society. Lets start at the root of this problem tree we call Peter Houghtan. Why was his lunch box thrown out, because the older kid picked on him because he was weak and different. Society ditates that it nessary to pick on the weak and different. Josie stopped being this friend. Why? Because better wasn't cool and hanging out with the un-cool kids is one of the cardnal sins in the eyes of society. He revealed his love to Josie, and what happened, the "cool" kids pulled his pants down in front of the whole school, because socitey say in order for them to be on the top, they must use the weak as stepping stones.

you cant expect to blame society for the problem with Peter Houghton's bullying problem. If everyone would stop being picked on and the bullies stopped picking on the people, the world would be a utopia. And that will never happen. Blame the kids that do the bullying because they are choosing to bully the kid because he cant play sports and is smaller than them. You always hear about the problems that "oh yea i only bullied the kid because my parents beat me." That bull doesnt apply here. I definately dont think that Drew Girard and Matt Royston get beat at home, i mean what parent would'nt want their kids to be allstars. “Bullies are always cowards at heart and may be credited with a pretty safe instinct in scenting their prey.”
ReplyDelete-Anna Julia Cooper Matt Royston and Drew Girard are the cowardly ones here not Peter. They just cant learn to pick on someone their own sizes. -Rob Breitzman
It's all society's fault.

Society isnt i wouldnt say guilty or the cause but they hold some responsibility. They should know that this much teasing and bullying cannot lead to anything good. They should be able to try to control things like this its just unacceptable when things have to happen this way. everybody holds the blame and those who are trying to go on like nothing happened and still bully the same kids are just ignorant and irresponsible. I wouldnt hold society to as much blame as the bullies but, they are still responsible.

Society is in a way to blame for the actions of Peter and the bullies because he was bullied all his life and peter eventually became what the bullies wanted him to be and if society hadf cared and stepped in and listened or h elped people it might not have happened.

its really 50/50 the socity did not help and the parents and school can not. socity is is to blame because its like a tree it all boils down to it they added to the tourchers act that led to the gun deal and him shooting up school. i do agree because with out socity MABY nothing would have happen

yes i think it is part of society falt because they makde fun of him when his love letter to josi got sent to all of the student in the school which resalted in peter getting his pants pulled down in front of the the whole entire school

i think it is through because he has had so many thing happen to him. when they where telling what happened to him and how everyone was making in fun of him they really didnt care. and they didnt care what happened to him.

I think it is society's fault because they never tried to stop the kids from picking on Peter. None of the teachers, other stdents, soccer coaches, none of them tried to stop what was happening to him. The coach even made it seem like it was ok for them to pick on him when he said "boys will be boys". So yeah it's totally society's fault!!!-Taylor
ReplyDeletei think that society is the one who cause it because the techers, students never tried to stop the billies from hitting Peter or tripping him.like the love letter that Peter sent to Josie was sent to allt the students of the school and they make fun of him and it is socity's fault.
